Will Wilkinson
BSc(Hons) BVetMed MRCVS
Biography
I am a vet, married to another vet and father of two. Graduating from Liverpool as a Biovet in 2011 I studied the accelerated BVetMed at RVC, qualifying in 2015. Both independent practices I worked at were bought by chains/corporates. Following a complaint to the RCVS in 2019, and the effect on me of the ensuing complaints process, I left full-time practice. As of 2020, I teach part-time at Surrey Uni School of Veterinary Medicine.
Besides this, I do some locum work in first-opinion and out of hours practices, am a Veterinary Officer in the Reserves and manage several colonies of my own bees as well as some for a business locally (thus appear to be coming out in hives).
Having a love of wildlife and the natural world, in the spare time I had before having children and animals, I enjoyed fishing, cycling, camping and many other outdoor activities. I keep a small number of hens and until recently I had sheep too. Previous jobs include having worked (and still volunteering) as a sailing instructor and paddle sports coach, plus a part time role at Merrist Wood where I part-developed and taught some sustainability and conservation modules on the Wildlife and Conservation degree.
I try to find pragmatic, workable solutions to genuine problems whilst remembering the art of being a vet involving proper communication, humility and knowing when not to do something. As a Christian, openness, accountability and integrity are important to me. Also as a Christian, I don’t get everything right all of the time but I do try to do/make things better and be honest about it, including mistakes. Whilst I may not be able to respond to every message, I welcome all opinions.
