Ms Helena Jones
Biography
Helena is an Independent Social Worker who specialises in complex parenting assessments for childcare proceedings. She works for a number of local authority children services departments in mid and south Wales and has also undertaken work for CAFCASS as a self-employed contractor.
Helena is a career social worker having qualified in 1988 . She worked for local authorities in London and south Wales before taking up a post with the NSPCC in 1999 as a child protection officer, later becoming a practitioner and then team manager of the Domestic Abuse Prevention Service based in Cardiff.
In 2004, she was awarded a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship which enabled her to visit Ontario Canada, researching service provision for children affected by domestic abuse. This opportunity enabled the development of the NSPCC Caring Dad’s programme in collaboration with its Canadian authors, with Helena being influential in developing and promoting this service across Wales with the support of the Welsh Assembly Government.
After a 15 year tenure at NSPCC she returned to frontline practice as a manager within a busy local authority child protection team, leaving in 2016 to undertake independent work which she combines with her role as a social care panel member on fitness to practise hearings held by Social Care Wales, the regulatory body for social workers in Wales.
Helena is a lifelong animal welfare advocate and enjoys hiking, cycling and wild swimming within the Brecon Beacons area where she now lives.
