Mr Peter Smith
Biography
Peter is a solicitor. Before retiring from full-time legal practice he was head of the Business Law division of Smith Partnership solicitors and was also for many years a full time court advocate. He played a leading role in developing the practice into what is now a large regional firm with over 20 partners.
In the field of professional regulation he sits as a member of a number of regulatory and disciplinary bodies as well as acting as an “independent person” for a local authority – a member of the Standards Committee and involved in the monitoring of elected members’ conduct. He has also served as an adjudicator for the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.
Peter was appointed the founding Chair of Derby Museums Trust, which was established to breathe new life into the city’s museums and art gallery and has attracted substantial inward investment to the city to create a new and cutting edge “Museum of Making.”
