VNs and the law at the London Vet Show
25 October 2010
On the Saturday of the London Vet Show (23 October), over 100 veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and practice managers joined the RCVS for a breakfast session on VNs and the Law.
The presentation, made by RCVS President Peter Jinman, served as a refresher on Schedule 3 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, and its relation to veterinary nurses, student veterinary nurses and unqualified lay people.
It covered who can legally be titled ‘Veterinary Nurse’, under what circumstances Student Veterinary Nurses can carry out minor surgery and medical treatments, and the definition of terms such as ‘direction’ and ‘supervision’.
Those who missed the session can download a PDF of the presentation from the 'Related documents' section on the right.
