Undergraduate veterinary students invited to participate in Fellows of the Future competition
29 April 2024
Our Fellowship is once again inviting undergraduate veterinary students, including those who have just completed their undergraduate studies and graduated no earlier than 2023, to present their original research as part of the Fellows of the Future competition.
The competition will be run as part of Fellowship Day, taking place on 28 November 2024 at One Great George Street in London. Fellows of The Future applicants will be invited to present their research live to the audience and judging panel in a presentation lasting no longer than five minutes. The presentation that receives the highest number of votes from the panel of judges will be awarded a prize. The winning and highly commended presentations will be awarded £200 and £100 in National Book Tokens, respectively.
Students within the UK, as well as overseas students from RCVS accredited institutions, are welcome to enter the competition. Overseas students should be sure to check their eligibility to enter the competition by checking to see if their university and course is listed on the registration page of our website.
For UK-based finalists, expenses up to £150 will be reimbursed for attending the day. International finalists will be able to present their research via video link.
Director for the Advancement of the Professions, Angharad Belcher, said: "The Fellows of the Future competition is an annual highlight for the Fellowship, demonstrating the incredible research currently being undertaken by students around the world. 2023 saw a record number of students take part from the UK and overseas, demonstrating the wide interest in our Fellowship.
“The competition is a platform for these students to showcase their achievements and potential to the wider veterinary community. We welcome research from any area within veterinary, including non-clinical.
“Due to the overwhelming response last year, we have decided to have not only the top three present at Fellowship Day in November, but we will also display the posters from the top 10 and host an evening for all applicants to discuss their research with Fellows. We look forward to hearing from students this year."
Anyone who is interested in applying for the Fellows of the Future competition will need to:
- Complete a form and provide a title and summary of their research (500 words max) in a Microsoft Word or a PDF document
- Include up to two illustrations or diagrams in the application
The deadline for submissions for the ‘Fellows of the Future’ competition is 4pm on 1 October 2024. Successful applicants will be informed during the week commencing 21 October 2024. Please note that all shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend Fellowship Day.
