Trust continues support for veterinary undergraduate research

The RCVS Trust has this week awarded eleven EMS Vacation Research Scholarships to veterinary undergraduates seeking to pursue research initiatives as part of their extra-mural studies.

On hearing the news of her EMS Vacation Research Scholarship, Ellie Milnes from University of Cambridge said:

"I am very grateful to the RCVS Trust for funding my project, which aims to assess the welfare costs associated with different physical and chemical immobilisation techniques for free-ranging wildlife in Namibia.

"This grant will allow me to communicate my results to veterinary students so that they can make informed decisions about participating in game capture, such as: is the educational or conservation value of this activity justified in relation to the welfare costs involved? Which capture techniques should we be using? Should students be taking part at all?"

Gerri McHugh, Director of the Trust, added “In this, our Golden Jubilee year, we are delighted to be able to support so many undergraduate research initiatives across a comprehensive range of species, disciplines and disease areas.

"We are confident that all eleven students will get excellent exposure to research as a career option, and look forward to hearing about their experiences of the research environment once their projects are completed.

"The RCVS Trust is a small but very ambitious charity and we are working hard to raise additional funds and develop new services to ensure that our Golden Jubilee year marks a very positive chapter in our history.”
