Target Grants launched - now accepting applications

Applications are now open for our first ‘Target Grants’ round, under the evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) agenda.

We are appealing to the global veterinary community to address particular challenges in EBVM. The first of these is to examine what the normal first-opinion veterinary practice caseload looks like today.

We are offering nine grants of £5,000 each to cover different types of veterinary practice across the globe.

Nick Royle, Executive Director of RCVS Knowledge, says: “We have analysed the literature and have found that, even though veterinary epidemiology is a frequently published topic, it tends to focus on the prevalence of one particular disease or medical problem. Very few studies have concentrated on defining the veterinary caseload across the board, using real practice data. 

“This creates the risk that knowledge gaps in veterinary medicine may not be prioritised. As a result, research and teaching curricula may not be correctly focused.”

The research findings will help us to target and prioritise our research efforts. This will enable us to focus on building the evidence to answer questions that are most common in practice. As an aside, it will also enable veterinary professionals to compare their caseload with the average practice, locally and internationally.

We are offering nine grants of £5,000 each to cover different types of veterinary practice across the globe. There are no restrictions on who can apply for these grants, and applicants can bid for one or more projects. Applications are being accepted from now until 15 November 2013.
