Statement on government’s intention to ban ‘XL Bully’ type dogs
2 November 2023
The government has announced its intention to ban XL Bully type dogs and we, along with BVA, BSAVA and other veterinary stakeholders, are in discussions with Defra regarding the production of further information for the veterinary professions around the neutering of the animals, as well as euthanasia where this is the owner’s preference.
We are waiting to see the full details of the government’s planned legislation, which will be published in due course, before we can comment any further. However, once we have that information, we will be producing our own guidance for the profession regarding the legislation.
