Sign up now for VN Best Practice Day

26 January 2006

Assessors and Internal Verifiers for the VN NVQ are invited to share their experiences and learn from others at a Best Practice Day to be held at Askham Bryan College, York, on 23 March 2006.

Delegates will also benefit from the experience of guest speaker Gail Booth, an External Verifier involved with other vocational disciplines who will share her views on the role of the Assessor and Internal Verifier, and strategies for standardisation in recording and sampling.

"We offered a similar course in July 2005 for Internal Verifiers and feedback indicated that it was a very useful day," explains Julie Dugmore, Quality Assurance Manager for the VN Awarding Body at the RCVS.

"Now we are broadening the day's scope to offer a programme that will also be of interest to Assessors. The opportunity to share best practice with those outside of the profession will be particularly useful. VNs often feel the issues they face are unique, but we can learn a great deal from Assessors in other sectors." added Julie.

Other speakers include Nadine Fletcher VN, an Assessor in practice, who will discuss a holistic approach to assessment methods; Chad Northcott MRCVS who will look at candidate support; VN Carol Hicks whose session will look at developing relationships within the Training Practice; and Internal Verifier Wendy Nevin who will offer an overview on health and safety issues.

The importance of sharing best practice was underlined by the findings of the recent independent review of the VN NVQ, commissioned by the RCVS.

The course costs £95 and those wishing to apply should contact the Veterinary Nursing Department on 020 7202 0712 or [email protected]. Places are limited and there is a closing deadline for applications of 10 March 2006.
