RCVS Trust awards G Norman Hall medals
23 July 2003
At RCVS Day earlier this month the RCVS Trust awarded the G Norman Hall medal both to Professor Michael Day FRCVS and Professor Julie Fitzpatrick MRCVS.
Established by Dr George Norman Alfred Hall MRCVS (1885-1965), this gold medal has been awarded approximately every three years since 1969 for outstanding research into animal diseases.
Professor Day, currently professor of veterinary pathology at the University of Bristol, was nominated for the award for his contribution to knowledge in the field of veterinary immunology and, in particular, the immunopathogenesis of immune-mediated and infectious diseases of dogs and cats.
Professor Fitzpatrick, who holds a personal chair in farm animal medicine at the University of Glasgow, was nominated for her contribution to veterinary research into the diseases and welfare of cattle, sheep and goats, particularly the health and welfare implications of mastitis in cattle.
Dr Lydia Brown, Chairman of the RCVS Trust said, "The RCVS Trust is delighted to award the G Norman Hall medal to two such inspiring recipients; excellence in veterinary research is a key area that the RCVS Trust is keen to support through its range of grants. Once again we congratulate Professors Day and Fitzpatrick on their awards."
