RCVS to host first VN Educators' Conference

29 April 2025

Following feedback from our annual VN Educators meetings, this June our Veterinary Nursing (VN) Team are launching the first RCVS VN Educators’ Conference—a dedicated event providing a unique opportunity for VN educators involved in the development, delivery and assessment of student veterinary nurses—to explore key challenges in veterinary nurse education.

The conference will be running twice this year. The first will take place on Tuesday 17 June 2025 from 9am to 4pm at Myerscough College in Preston, and the second in October at our new headquarters in London. The conference programme for both days will remain largely the same, centred around a theme of ‘Wellbeing and support: creating inclusive and sustainable learning environments’, focusing on student wellbeing alongside strategies to support learners with disabilities, additional needs, and those who are neurodivergent.

The conference will offer a balanced programme, ensuring educators leave with tools and insights to enhance both theoretical and practical aspects of VN training. From innovative teaching methods, to supporting students in the workplace, sessions will address the key challenges currently facing VN educators and provide practical takeaways that can be applied directly to teaching.

Shirley GibbinsShirley Gibbins, Veterinary Nursing Qualifications Lead, said: "We are really looking forward to bringing veterinary nurse educators together and providing them with a vital opportunity to connect, collaborate and share insights.

"Last year we received positive feedback from our VN educators’ meetings, but people consistently told us how much they would have appreciated more time to network and discuss the issues at hand, and so the VN Educators’ Conference was created.

"We have put together an informative, interactive programme, based around this years’ theme, to reflect the growing need to embed wellbeing and inclusivity at the heart of VN education. At the conference we will explore practical approaches to supporting student’s mental health and resilience, alongside strategies for creating truly inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of all students."

Please note, this event is only open to VN educators. To find out more and book your place, please visit our dedicated RCVS VN Educators’ Conference Eventbrite page. Early bird tickets are available to book at the price of £32 per person until 11.59pm on Thursday 15 May. Thereafter tickets will cost £35. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.
