RCVS keeps up the pressure on medicines
2 July 2003
n the retail supply of prescription only veterinary medicines.
We understand that the OFT is due to report back to you later this month [July] and that a revised draft of the Order will be the subject of a statutory consultation later in the year. We very much urge you to consider at this early stage the political and practical consequences of proceeding, particularly with a legal ban on charging for a prescription and whether the objectives can be met more simply and cost effectively through amendments to the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct.
We would welcome the opportunity of discussing these matters with you. We are copying this letter to Margaret Beckett, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as we understand that she also has responsibilities for implementing some of the Competition Commission's recommendations.
