Introduction to the UK profession for overseas vets and VNs
26 October 2017
We will once again be holding our popular courses designed to help veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses who qualified overseas and are currently working, or wish to work, in the UK veterinary profession.
The two-day course take place on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 November at our offices in London and is jointly organised with the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) and in association with the British Veterinary Association (BVA).
The course provides overseas graduates with the information and skills needed to practice in the UK, as well as helping them understand our Code of Professional Conduct and other legal duties as veterinary professionals.
The overall aim is to reduce the risk of a concerns being raised about overseas-qualified vets and VNs working in the UK, improve their experience of working in the country and to advance their communication skills.
The first day, titled ‘A Masterclass in Communications’, is led by the VDS and uses professional actors to help guide attendees through a variety of situations and scenarios and how they should respond to them as a veterinary professional. Registration takes place at 8.30am and the day finishes around 4.15pm with lunch being provided. The cost of attending the day is £160.
The second day is free and provides attendees with the key information on being a vet and veterinary nurse in the UK. The day starts at 9.30am and will feature talks by representatives of the RCVS, VDS, BVA and Vetlife as well as Luis Sainz-Pardo from VetAbroad about his experiences of helping overseas vets adjust to working in the UK and Richard Holborow MRCVS on how to secure a dream job. The event finishes around 5pm and lunch will be provided.
