Halfway point for new Hardwick Street office
31 January 2025
We have reached the approximate halfway mark in the renovation and refurbishment of our new office building in Hardwick Street, London, which we officially took possession of last summer.
The works are currently on track and on budget, and we intend that our new home will be available for use by staff, Council members and visitors this coming summer.
The majority of work done so far has involved stripping out the building to make it fit and safe for purpose and accessible for all, and to ensure the six-floor Victorian warehouse will be able to meet all our needs as well as those of veterinary professionals and our many stakeholders.
Over the coming months, our new office space will really start to take shape, with the installation of all the structures and facilities necessary to make it an engaging and effective space for work and collaboration.
Speaking about key considerations for the new building during a site visit to Hardwick Street, RCVS President Linda Belton remarked that it was vital to look at the building from the perspective of the purposes that it will fulfil.
These included the RCVS staff team working to deliver the College’s functions under the Veterinary Surgeons Act and the Royal Charter, where many different skills would need to be housed within the building.
Linda also stressed the need to look at the building from the perspective of the professions – how members could use the building, whether as a place to work or hold meetings, or to access the historical archive and collections, or the services of our charity partner, RCVS Knowledge.
Linda added: "It’s important that veterinary professionals are able to feel connected to the building and that it gives us greater opportunity to engage with our stakeholders, host events, connect with different areas and communicate our work.
"We want our new building to be a place where we can thrive as a College and where everyone feels welcome – members of the professions, students, staff members, and stakeholders alike."
