Get involved in our Black History Month Campaign for 2024

26 September 2024

Black History Month is celebrated annually, and every October in the UK.  It is a month that gives everyone the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the impact of black heritage and culture.

This year, we are running a campaign focussed on the theme of ‘reclaiming narratives’, which aims to correct historical inaccuracies, showcase untold success stories, and challenge the narratives that have often overlooked the contributions of black individuals both in the UK and globally.

As a part of this, we are inviting black veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, as well as vet and vet nurse students, to take part in a short survey to share their views and experiences.

RCVS Leadership & Inclusion Manager Gurpreet Gill said: “While we are running this campaign as part of Black History Month, it is important that we continue to amplify the voices of those from underrepresented backgrounds throughout the entire year.

“We know that black people and those from ethnic minority backgrounds are underrepresented not just in society but in the veterinary profession too. So, this Black History Month we are inviting our black colleagues to share what reclaiming narratives means to them, an aspect of black heritage that they are particularly proud of, and if there are any specific inaccuracies of black history that they want the professions to be aware of.

“We will then be sharing contributions across our social media channels and on our website during October.”

If you would like to get involved in our Black History Month Campaign for 2024, please fill out the short survey on Microsoft forms by Sunday 13 October 2024.
