Full-house for the RCVS Share Jones Lecture 2003

The RCVS Share-Jones Lecture 2003, awarded by the RCVS to an individual of special eminence in the field of veterinary anatomy, was delivered by Professor Jean-Marie Denoix last week at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in Camden Town.

All 200 tickets had been booked some time in advance by RVC staff and students, as well as by other members of the profession from further afield, who were keen to hear Professor Denoix's lecture "Clinical Anatomy of the Equine Locomotor System".

Described by Professor Leo Jeffcott (Dean of the Cambridge Veterinary School) as "not only an anatomist but an excellent clinician", Professor Denoix is also renowned as the foremost authority on ultrasonographic examination of joint problems in horses.

With the aid of some excellent visual material, he discussed in detail the importance of clinical anatomy as the basis for clinical, physical and dynamic examination of equine joint problems, as well as for diagnostic analgesia, diagnostic imaging (including radiography, ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy and magnetic resonance imaging) and the subsequent management of such problems.

In his introductory remarks, the RCVS President, Professor Richard Halliwell paid tribute to Professor Denoix's achievements in his field and commented that, "His international reputation is reflected in invitations to speak in no less than 25 countries".

He also noted the recent 53rd anniversary of the death of Professor John Share Jones, in whose memory the RCVS continues to award the biennial lectureship.

Professor Share Jones was a professor at the Liverpool Veterinary School, was RCVS President in 1928 and an RCVS Council Member for 38 years.
