Does the RCVS listen? Find out at BSAVA Congress
29 March 2010
The RCVS will hold a session at the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) Congress at 2pm on 10 April to outline the changes it has made as a result of recent consultations.
"It is in everybody's interest - animal owners, animals, vets and veterinary nurses, that the veterinary profession is well regulated," says the RCVS Registrar, Jane Hern.
"This is why, although we do not represent veterinary surgeons and nurses, it is important that we take account of their views. Last year we carried out consultations in four areas, as well as undertaking two surveys of the veterinary professions in the early part of this year."
The session will cover some the changes that the RCVS has made following feedback received from the consultations carried out in 2009. The first results of the recent surveys of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses will also be available at the session.
In addition, the RCVS will hold sessions to launch the new standards for the Practice Standards Scheme (Saturday 10 April, 3.30pm, Hall 6) and answer questions on the new VN qualification (Saturday 10 April, 4.30 pm, Hall 6).
The consultations that the RCVS carried out in 2009 looked at Extra Mural Studies for veterinary undergraduates, the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme, the Veterinary Surgeons Act, and a replacement qualification for veterinary nurses following the government's phasing out of NVQs.
RCVS staff will also be on hand at the RCVS stand (911) throughout BSAVA Congress, where visitors can try out an animal noises quiz, and if they correctly identify the three animal calls, be in with a chance to win an iPod nano.
