RCVS Academy digital learning platform launched
20 June 2022
The RCVS has launched a new digital learning platform, with free-to-access interactive courses for veterinary professionals. The new platform, the RCVS Academy, aims to help members of the veterinary team to meet professional standards and stay up-to-date with developments in the profession.
The RCVS Academy has been created in collaboration with members of the veterinary professions to ensure that the platform responds to the learning needs of members of the veterinary team. It is designed to make learning accessible and flexible through bite-sized interactive courses containing video, activities, scenarios and reflective practice. Offering free CPD through a digital platform, the RCVS Academy aims to help veterinary professionals fit learning and development around their busy schedules.
The platform provides learning resources applicable for every career stage, including content for new graduates and registrants, and modules for those who have been in the profession for many years. The Academy currently offers courses within the following subject areas:
- Leadership and coaching
- Working in the UK
- Ownership and consent
- Resolving complaints
- CPD recording and reflecting
New learning materials will be continually added to the platform, and the RCVS Academy Team remain keen to get feedback from veterinary professionals, to help make continuous improvements and ensure that future courses respond to their learning needs.
All courses completed through the RCVS Academy can count towards annual RCVS CPD requirements and users can easily add learning hours to their 1CPD account, either through the RCVS Academy or by scanning a QR code.
Lizzie Lockett, RCVS Chief Executive (pictured), said: “The development and launch of the RCVS Academy is the culmination of months of collaboration from numerous RCVS teams and members of the professions who volunteered to join our Academy Panel. The insight we received from across the veterinary professions has helped us to create a digital learning platform with relevant and engaging resources that cover a wide range of areas of professional development.
“As part of our ambition to be a compassionate regulator, we would like to ensure that all veterinary professionals have access to learning resources that will help them meet the standards set by their peers on RCVS Council. We’re aware of the pressures that veterinary professions are facing and the Academy has been built to respond to changing learning needs.
“The learning resources available on the platform have been designed to help vet teams develop their understanding of the RCVS professional guidelines and also how they can apply them in their everyday role. We will continue to collaborate with the professions on new courses and resources for the RCVS Academy to ensure that we continue to support them for the benefit of their patients, clients and team.”
