College to run social media campaign to raise awareness of CPD

In November we will be running a social media campaign highlighting the varied nature of continuing professional development (CPD) for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses.

The campaign is designed to address uncertainties surrounding the type of activities that can be counted towards veterinary surgeons’ and veterinary nurses’ CPD. All veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses must complete a minimum of 105 hours and 45 hours of CPD over a rolling three-year period, respectively, though it is appreciated that many complete considerably more than this.

Christine Warman, our Director of Education, says: “The Education Department often receives queries from both veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses about what can be counted towards their CPD, as well as concerns about the costs involved or the time they may have to spend away from practice. We hope that this campaign will help to demonstrate the many different activities that can count as CPD, including non-clinical training in areas such as management, mentoring and communications.”

The campaign will consist of daily posts on our social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, with examples from veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons, including members of RCVS Council, VN Council, and Advanced Practitioners, of CPD that they have engaged in and that has had a tangible impact on their practice.

All posts will include the hashtag #mykindofCPD, and we will encourage followers to share their own experiences with the same hashtag.
