College saddened by loss of past President
17 December 2010
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons was saddened to learn of the death of a former President of the College, Mr Michael Young JP HonFRCVS.
A graduate of the Royal Veterinary College, Mr Young was first elected to the RCVS Council in 1968.
He became an RCVS President in 1979-80 and, in 1995, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship.
His interests lay in small animal practice and he was a founder member of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, becoming its President in 1965-66.
He was also a President of the Central Veterinary Society and served on the Council of the British Veterinary Association.
“Sadly, I came to know Michael only in recent years, as a most charming and helpful past-President,” said Peter Jinman, the current RCVS President.
“I know him to have been a well respected veterinary surgeon who always did his utmost to further the standing of the profession.
"He will be sorely missed by the past-Presidents of the RCVS as one of the erudite and polite holders of that position.”
