CEO outlines Council’s key activities in first post-meeting video
7 June 2013
Chief Executive Nick Stace has summarised discussions and decisions made at recent meetings, in his first post-Council video.
We held four key meetings on 5 and 6 June: an RCVS Charitable Trust Board meeting, a meeting of RCVS Council to discuss the First-Rate Regulator project, the regular June Council meeting, and an additional session to consider the future evolution of the Practice Standards Scheme.
In the video, which can be accessed via his blog, Nick compresses 15 hours of meetings into around three minutes – a tall order.
Stressing that the College’s role is to set, uphold and raise veterinary standards, he explains:
- the fact that Council agreed to freeze veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse retention fees for 2014 – the fourth consecutive year that this has been done;
- the Trust’s decision to move towards a new name of ‘RCVS Knowledge’, as knowledge is core to its activities around the Historical Collection, the Library & Information Service and its grants programme – with evidence-based veterinary medicine becoming the underpinning theme;
- the discussions that took place around the First-Rate Regulator research, with recommendations falling under three themes of identity, service and evolution; and,
- Council’s positive backing for the development of the Practice Standards Scheme into a more modular, outcomes-focused scheme, which offers the opportunity for practices to differentiate themselves through continuous improvement of standards.
“I appreciate not everyone has time to wade through all of the papers and minutes that are available online, so, in the interests of transparency and openness, I hope this potted version will give you a snapshot of what’s been going on at Belgravia House,” says Nick.
“Let me know what you think, and, if the feedback is positive, we will do more,” he adds.
