Details
This 2-day online MHFA First Aid course is offered to all members of the Veterinary profession in Northern Ireland (NI). This certified course will be delivered by the NI Depression Charity, Aware, and licensed by the Northern Ireland Public Health Agency.
Who is this course for:
The MHFA training course is open to all members of the veterinary profession, including veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, students, receptionists, veterinary care assistants, technicians and practice managers. We would particularly welcome those working in rural areas and in ambulatory practice.
This course is ideal for individuals who would like to become an MHFAider® to gain the knowledge and skills to spot signs of people experiencing poor mental health, be confident to start a conversation and signpost a person to appropriate support.

- What is meant by mental health/mental ill health?
- Dealing with crises such as suicidal behaviour, self-harm, panic attacks and acute psychotic behaviour
- Recognising the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, including depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders and eating disorders
- Where and how to get help
- Self-help strategies
