Post-placement hints and tips
As your placement draws to an end, our useful tips will help you end the experience on a high note.
Say thank you!
Showing gratitude to your placement provider is common courtesy. This could be in the form of a thank you card or perhaps some biscuits for the staff room. A thoughtful gesture like this is sure to be well-received by the team at your placement.
Reflect on your experience
Reflection is paramount to getting the most from your placement. Things may not always have gone to plan, and it's important to analyse why. Would you have done anything differently to achieve a different outcome, or were circumstances outside of your control? But remember to also reflect on the things that went well.
Reflection will also prepare you when documenting your Continued Professional Development (CPD) after graduation.
Submit your feedback forms
Ensure both you and your provider have completed any forms your university requires. If possible, give your placement provider a copy of the form to speed up their response.
Share what you’ve learned
Share what you’ve learned with your peers and tutors. This will help you consolidate your experiences, and others can learn from you too.
Consider the students coming after you
Remember how you felt before your first EMS placement? Other students will be feeling the same. Ensure your feedback is helpful to students considering attending the same placement.
