Person Specification for RCVS Fellowship Science Advisory Panel Member
Purpose of the Role
To contribute expertise and experience to the Fellowship Science Advisory Panel, ensuring the highest standards in veterinary science research, policy, and practice.
Please note, you must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to apply for this position.
Essential Criteria
1. Qualifications:
- A degree in veterinary science/medicine or a related field
- Postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc, PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline
2. Professional Experience:
- Extensive experience in veterinary science/medicine or a related field.
- A minimum of Level 7 in National Qualifications and experience in scientific research, clinical practice, or academia within veterinary science.
- Proven track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in reviewing scientific research and applications.
3. Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse panel of experts.
- Proficiency in evaluating scientific methodologies and data.
4. Knowledge:
- Knowledge of current trends and advancements in veterinary science.
- Understanding of the ethical and regulatory frameworks governing veterinary research.
5. Personal Attributes:
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Strong commitment to promoting evidence-based veterinary practice.
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in panel meetings.
- Review and assess research proposals, applications, and reports.
- Provide constructive feedback and suggestions to enhance research quality and relevance.
- Declare any conflicts of interest and maintain confidentiality of all panel discussions and materials.
- Communicate effectively with the administrative team regarding any issues that may impact the assessment timeline.
