Biography
Dr Tim Rowan has a broad perspective and knowledge of veterinary medicine and particularly of R&D related to veterinary medicines and animal welfare. This is underpinned by veterinary training, work in practice, a PhD, teaching in higher education, combined with many years’ experience in research conduct and leadership.
He held a lectureship at Liverpool, and then scientific and leadership positions in the pharmaceutical industry, NGOs and international veterinary consultancy. His work on novel medicines has encompassed innovative therapies and vaccines in both the developed world and LMICs. His work on animal welfare has been at an international level and focused on the 3Rs principle and advancing development of non-animal alternatives in regulatory safety testing.
He has supported and mentored veterinarians and scientists, and collaborated widely in international multidisciplinary teams. He is an author of >90 full research papers in peer-reviewed journals. His expertise is combined with commercial and leadership experience. As a consequence, he has a wide professional network, and has held board positions in several limited companies.
Now, Tim is an independent veterinary consultant supporting (a) development of novel veterinary medicines working with universities and companies, and (b) improvements in regulatory safety testing through UK and European organisations. He continues to mentor veterinarians and scientists to support them in reaching their potential.
