Biography
Born in Somerset arriving in Australia as a teenager, Tanya is a graduate of the University of Sydney with postgraduate qualifications in International Animal Welfare Ethics and Law from Edinburgh and a member by examination of the Animal Welfare Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.
A small animal practitioner who established her own practice in Haberfield, Sydney, Tanya very much enjoys practice. She is also a wildlife researcher with original research published in Nature on galactosaemia in kangaroos.
Tanya’s interests lie in animal welfare, research, promoting the use of evidence based veterinary medicine, professional ethics, wildlife, the environment and sustainable agriculture and is a regular presenter at veterinary conferences and universities and published author on these topics.
Tanya is the editor of a forthcoming book, ‘One Welfare in Practice: The Role of the Veterinarian’ which brings together her interests in professional ethics, animal welfare, human wellbeing and the environment.
Tanya is an active member of the Australian Veterinary Association, holding leadership positions in AVAWE and AVCB, the welfare and ethics and conservation biology SIGs, and an active member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists Animal Welfare Chapter. She enjoys mentoring veterinary students and new graduates as well as supporting veterinarians from developing countries through the CVA.
