Biography

Martin is an RCVS and European Veterinary Specialist in Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law with a PhD in veterinary professional regulation and a career in academia, civil service and commercial practice. He is now the Global Head of Ethics and Welfare at Mars.

Having graduated in 2006 and spending some years in clinical practice, Martin returned to the RVC as a researcher working on canine welfare. He completed a Masters in Medical Ethics and Law and a PhD in the regulation and governance of the veterinary profession before being appointed as the first faculty in Veterinary Ethics and Law at the RVC.

In 2017, Martin moved to the Home Office as Head of Operations in a division of Home Office Science and Security, a regulatory branch of the civil service and then returned to education as the Director of Learning Education and Development at CVS Group for 2 years.

In contribution to RCVS work, Martin has been a member of the VN Legislation Working Party at the time of the RVN legislative reform, a member of the RCVS Disciplinary Committee for 8 years and Chair of it for 2 years. He is currently Chair of the Preliminary Qualifications SubCommittee.

Martin has published and presented extensively in the areas of veterinary ethics, professional regulation and governance.
