Biography

After graduating with honours in 2007 from the University of Perugia (Italy), Luca moved to England where he completed an Internship Program in Small Animal Medicine & Surgery. Subsequently, he undertook a European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) approved residency at ChesterGates Animal Referral Hospital. In 2012, Luca was awarded the ECVN diploma, and in 2015 he achieved the RCVS Recognised Specialist Status in Veterinary Neurology. In 2023, Luca became a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for his Meritorious Contribution to Clinical Practice. Currently, he serves as the head of the Neurology/Neurosurgical unit at North West Veterinary Specialists, focusing on interests such as canine spinal cord injury, neurosurgery, and advanced diagnostic imaging.
Luca was among the pioneering veterinary neurologists in the UK to utilize the neurosurgical microscope for performing complex spinal and brain surgeries. He has also held positions as an official member of both the ECVN examination committee and the nomination committee.
Furthermore, Luca has been actively involved in original research and is the author and co-author of several international publications. Notably, he contributed significantly to two chapters in Geoff Skerritt's book: "The King’s Applied Anatomy of the Central Nervous System of Domestic Mammals (Second edition)," published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd, Oxford (United Kingdom) in 2018.
