Biography
Katharine Nelson is the Practice Principal of Acorn House Veterinary Hospital – the RVC small animal first opinion teaching hospital in Bedford. Katharine has led the practice to provide a sustainably high standard of contextualised first opinion veterinary care that benefits pets and pet owners but also supports veterinary students and veterinary professionals at all stages of their careers to embrace and value expertise in the execution of well-rounded, pragmatic general practice as a specialty in its own right.
Katharine has over 20 years of experience in small animal general practice, initially in mixed and then in solely small animal practice; including in-house OOH provision as well as work with a dedicated OOH provider. She holds positions on the RCVS Preliminary Investigation Committee and the HRA Research Ethics Committee. Katharine holds RCVS AVP status in both Small Animal Surgery and Clinical Animal Behaviour and is also an RCVS Assessor for the AVP (Behaviour) designation as well as a VetGDP Advisor, Peer Reviewer and Academy Panel member.
Katharine has published articles in the Vet Times, BSAVA Companion and the Vet Record and more locally writes a monthly column for pet owners in BedsLife. She has worked with Bedford Borough Council to develop a collaborative approach towards frontline service provision in the community and with Boehringer Ingelheim to assist with the provision of animal behaviour tools for general practitioners.
