Biography

Janet Patterson-Kane is a veterinary scientist with 25 years experience in research.

Following two and a half years in clinical practice in the UK, she completed a PhD on the topic of Equine Tendon Disease at Massey University, New Zealand.

Dr Patterson-Kane then undertook residency training at the University of Florida, and worked as a postdoctoral specialist at the University of Kentucky.

She is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.

This was followed by a globe-trotting academic career at the Royal Veterinary College, University of Queensland, and finally the University of Glasgow - the latter as Professor of Veterinary Pathology.

Dr Patterson-Kane ran diagnostic laboratories in all of those Universities and had a wide-ranging research portfolio with topics including tendon injury, oncology, wound healing, and laminitis.

She is the author/co-author of more than 85 peer-reviewed manuscripts and the textbook ‘Clinical Equine Oncology'.

Outside of academia, Dr Patterson-Kane has worked in biomedical image analysis, and the non-profit sector.
