Biography
Qualifying from the RVC in 1979, Christianne spent the “first half” of her career specialising in farm animal reproduction, from her PhD to a role as an international consultant with livestock breeding companies. The FMD epidemic in 2001 resulted in a change of focus. Working for government for 21 years, initially in the field, and then as the first Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, she led the development and delivery of animal health and welfare policy in a newly devolved administration. She resigned from Welsh Government in 2022, and now is determined to apply all her hard learnt lessons to the benefit of the veterinary profession, and animal health and welfare at home and abroad. She is passionate about disease prevention and eradication, and the One Health agenda.
Throughout her varied career, Christianne has stepped up to accept representational roles, within the BVA, as meetings secretary then President of the Pig Veterinary Society, and President of the International Pig Veterinary Society, with England hosting the IPVS Congress in 1998.
She is an Honorary Professor and Honorary Fellow at the RVC, and University of
Aberystwyth, and holds Honorary Doctorates at Plymouth and Harper Adams Universities.
She was awarded an OBE for services to animal health and welfare in 2020.
