James Wood
OBE BSc BVetMed MSc PhD DipECVPH MA FSB FRCVS
Biography
James intercalated in physiology at University College London (BSc, 1985) before completing his veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College (BVetMed, 1988).
After spells in private veterinary practice, running a commercial lamb production trial and working on BSE for MAFF (1990), he completed an MSc in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (1991).
He worked at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket for 15 years, completing his PhD in 1997 (OU) and leaving as Head of Epidemiology in 2004.
He was appointed Director of the Cambridge Infectious Diseases Consortium (CIDC), based at the Department Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge in January 2005 and was appointed Alborada Professor of Equine and Farm Animal Science in 2008. He was Head of Cambridge Vet School 2013 - 2023.
