VN Council elections
RCVS Veterinary Nurses Council comprises 14 members: 6 elected veterinary nurses, 2 appointed veterinary nurse members, 2 appointed veterinary surgeon members and 4 appointed lay members.
In November 2017 VN Council agreed changes to its governance arrangements, reducing the number of elected members from 8 to 6 and introducing new appointed veterinary nurse, veterinary surgeon and lay members. Another key change was that the term of office for VN Council members was reduced from 4 to 3 years and the same 3-term limit also applies. These changes meant that no VN Council election was held in 2018.
The elections are held in March and April.
The election results are published in early May and the successful candidates begin their terms of office at the RCVS Annual General Meeting, held in July each year.
VN Council election 2025 - election candidates announced
We are delighted to announce that for the 2025 VN Council elections there will be three candidates standing for election for the two available places on VN Council. The candidates are:
Quiz the candidates
Ahead of the start of the election in March 2025, we will be running our ‘Quiz the candidates’ initiative in which veterinary nurses can submit questions to the candidates standing in the VN Council election, in order to better understand them and their views. However, due to the additional information now included in each of their statements, this year candidates will only answer one question of their choice each.
Before submitting questions to the candidates, please note the RCVS will only accept one question per person. Offensive, defamatory and inaccurate questions will be rejected by the Returning Officer and not be passed on to candidates.
Veterinary nurses can submit a question to the VN Council candidates by emailing [email protected]
Members of the professions have until Friday 28 February 2025 to submit their question.
