About the courses
To support those wanting to work as a veterinary professional in the UK, we have developed two online courses:
- Working in the UK for veterinary nurses
- Working in the UK for veterinary surgeons
Both courses are available in the RCVS Academy.
Who the courses are for
The courses are for vets and vet nurses educated outside of the UK who are considering relocating to the UK.

The courses will help you better understand:
- How to register with the RCVS
- Practising as a veterinary professional in the UK
Overview of course modules - veterinary nurses
Introduction
This module will give you an understanding of the work and role of the RCVS, the professions in the UK and the support you can access.
Your role, qualification and where you achieved your qualification will determine the next modules you need to complete.
Available modules
Registering in the UK
This module will help you identify which process, forms and evidence are relevant to your qualification.
Preparing for and sitting examinations
Some candidates will need to pass the RCVS pre-registration examination. This module guides you through the examination process, including what to expect on the day of the examination.
Code of Professional Conduct
This module should be completed once your application has been accepted. This module is mandatory for all successful applicants.
Course conclusion
This module provides career support and links to help you find employment in the UK.
Overview of course modules - veterinary surgeons
Introduction
This module will give you an understanding of the role of the RCVS, the professions in the UK and the support you can access.
Your role, qualification and where you achieved your qualification will determine the next modules you need to complete.
Available modules
Registering in the UK
This module will help you identify which process, forms and evidence are relevant to your qualification.
Statutory Membership Examination
Some candidates will need to pass the RCVS licensing examination to be able to work as a vet in the UK. This module consists of two sections:
- Part 1: Declaring your intention to sit the exam
- Part 2: The exam application process
Exam preparation
This module provides guidance on preparation for the Statutory Membership Exam. It has three sections covering:
- Seeing Practice
- Written exam preparation
- Practical exam (OSCE) preparation
Course conclusion
This module provides career support and links to help you find employment in the UK.
